From our beginnings in 1996 in Los Angeles as Agaricus Travel Company, a travel agency catering to Japanese-Americans who wanted to visit their homeland, we’ve been the go-to choice for travelers yearning for an authentic travel experience in Japan.

Over the years, we’ve built strong, lasting relationships with our customers, many of whom have become like family. In fact, 80% of our clients are repeat customers.

In 2025 we merged with Japan Planned to become Tours by Japan Planned. Co-founded by Kyoto native Miharu Kim and her USAF service member husband in Okinawa in 2021, Japan Planned originally helped American service members stationed throughout Japan to explore the country.

Over the next few years Japan Planned expanded its offering, lending its expertise to travelers from all over the world who wanted to truly experience Japan.

Now Tours by Japan Planned focuses on showcasing the hidden beauty of Japan, using our in-depth knowledge of the country to create your dream vacation.

Each group tour is custom-planned and personally accompanied by Miharu or David to provide additional support. We also collaborate with experienced local guides to ensure a truly enriching and authentic journey, giving you access to parts of Japan you wouldn’t be able to explore on your own.
